第八章 论中保基督

一、神按他永远的旨意，选定他的独生子主耶稣，作神人之间的中保1；为先知2、祭司3，和君王4，教会的元首和救主5，承受万有的6，审判世界的7，神从永远就将百姓赐给他为后裔8，而且到了时候，借着他得赎、蒙召、称义，成圣并得荣9。
二、神的儿子，三位一体中的第二位，既是惟一永远的神，与父同质同等，及至日期满足的时候，就取人性10，连人性所具有的一切本质，和共有的软弱于己身，只是无罪11；他借圣灵的大能，在童贞女马利亚的胎中用她的本质成孕12。所以完整无缺，而又是相异的二性，即神性与人性，毫无转化，合成或混合，不可分地结合于一位格之内13。这位就是真神真人，却是一位基督，神人间的惟一中保14。
三、主耶稣既如此在人性与神性上联结，就受无限量之圣灵的洁净与恩膏15；既在他里面有智慧和知识的一切宝藏16，父就喜欢叫一切的丰富住在他里面17。其目的乃是借着他的圣洁、无恶、无玷污，并所充满的恩典和真理18，使他得以全备，以便执行中保和保证人的职份19。这职份并不是他自己取来的，乃是蒙父召而任此职20，父把一切的权柄和审判交在他手中，并且命令执行之21。
四、主耶稣极其乐意担任这职份22；为了执行这职份，所以他生在律法之下23，而且完全成就了律法24，在他的灵魂里直接忍受了最大的痛苦25，在□的身体中受了极疼痛的苦楚26，被钉而死27；被埋葬，暂处于死权之下，但未见朽坏28。第三天他带着受苦时的同一身体29从死里复活30；又带身体升入高天，坐在他父的右边31，为我们代求32；并要在世界的末了，再来审判世人和天使33。
五、主耶稣凭他完全的顺服并牺牲自己，借永远的灵一次献给神，来完全满足他父的公义34；为父所赐给他的人非但获得和好，也获得天国永远的基业35。
六、救赎之工虽未在基督成肉身之前实际完成，但救赎的实力、效果与利益，却从世界之初借着那些应许、预表，与祭物继续传给历代神所拣选的人；在这些应许、预表和祭物中，他被显明为击破蛇头的女人后裔，是从创世以来被杀的羔羊，是昨日、今日、以后永在的基督36。
七、基督按着他的神人二性，来执行他为中保的工作；借每一性作其固有的事37，但有时在圣经中，由于基督位格的一致性，所以他位格中的此一性固有的事，也归属于彼一性38。
八、基督对那些得蒙救赎的人，就确实地、有效地将这救赎应用在他们身上并传达给他们39；为他们代求40，借圣道将救恩的奥秘启示给他们41；借着他的灵有效地劝勉他们相信而顺服；借着他的道和他的灵来管理他们的心42；借着他的全能全智，来胜过他们的一切仇敌，而且所用的方式与他奇妙莫测的旨意相合43。

第八章 论中保基督
一．上帝按祂自己所喜悦的，照祂永恒的旨意，选定祂的独生子主耶稣作上帝与人之间惟一的中保（赛42:1；彼前1:19，20；约3:16；提前2:5）；为先知（徒3:22）、祭司（来5:5，6）和君王（诗2:6；路1:33），教会的头和救主（弗5:23），万有的承受者（来1:2），和世界的审判者（徒17:31）；上帝在永世中便将一群人赐给祂作后裔（约17:6；诗22:30；赛53:10），而且到了时候，就使他们由祂得赎、蒙召、称义、成圣并得荣（提前2:6；赛55：4-5；林前1:30）。
二．上帝的儿子，三一上帝的第二位格，既是真实和永恒的上帝，与父同质同等，当日期满足的时候，就取了人性（约1:1，14；约壹5:20；腓2:6；加4:4）及其诸般基本的禀赋和共有的软弱，只是没有罪（来2:14，16－17；4:15）；所以，祂因着圣灵的权能，在童贞女马利亚腹中成孕，从她取了人性 （路1:27，31，35；加4:4）。因此，完整无缺却又截然不同的神人二性，不可分离地联合在一个位格里面，不相转化，不相混合，不相混乱（路1:35；西2:9；罗9:5；彼前3:18；提前3:16）。这一位格是真正的上帝，也是真正的人，但只是一个基督，是上帝与人之间惟一的中保（罗1:3，4；提前2:5）。
三．主耶稣，在祂这样与神性联合的人性中，分别为圣，无限量地受圣灵的恩膏（诗45:7；约3:34）；所积蓄的一切智慧和知识，都在祂里面藏着（西2:3），父按祂自己的美意，叫一切的丰盛都居住在祂里面（西1:19）；好叫祂既是圣洁，无邪恶，无玷污，满有恩典和真理（来7:26；约1:14），便可全备地执行中保的职分（徒10:38；来12:24；7:22）。这职分不是祂自己取来的，乃是蒙父所召（来5:4－5），父将一切权柄和审判的权力都交在祂手里，并且授权祂去执行（约5:22，27；太28:18；徒2:36）。
四．主耶稣完全甘心乐意地担任这一职分（诗40:7，8；来10:5－10；约10:18；腓2:8）；为要执行这一职分，祂就生在律法之下（加4:4），并确确实实地成全了律法（太3:15:5:17）；灵魂遭受极大的伤痛（太26:37，38；路22:44；太27:46），身体遭受极大的苦楚（太26，27），被钉死在十字架上（腓2:8）；被埋葬，处于死亡的权势之下，但未见朽坏（徒2:23，24，27；13:37；罗6:9）。第三天，祂从死里复活（林前15:3，4），带着原来受苦的身体（约20:25，27），也带着这身体升到天上，坐在祂父的右边（可16:19），为我们代求（罗8:34；来9:24；7:25），并在世界的末了还要再来审判世人和天使（罗14:9－10；徒1:11；10:42；太13:40－42；犹6；彼后2:4）。
五．主耶稣把祂那完全的顺服和自我的牺牲，藉永恒之灵，一次献给上帝，便完全满足了祂父的公义（罗5:19；来9:14，16；10:14；弗5:2；罗3:25，26），不仅为父所赐给祂的人买赎了和好，也买赎了天国永恒的基业（但9:24，26；西1:19，20；弗1:11，14；约17:2；来9:12，15）。
六．虽然救赎之工要到基督道成肉身以后才由祂施行，但是其功德、果效和惠益，却都在那些应许、预表和献祭中，而且藉着它们，从世界起始以来便在历代之中赐给选民了；这些应许、预表和献祭，启示并表明祂就是那击碎蛇头的女人的后裔，是那自世界之初就被杀的羔羊，因为祂昨日、今日、一直到永远都是一样的（加4:4-5；创3:15；启13:8；来13:8）。
七．基督按照其神人二性，执行祂中保的工作；每一性都作其分内的事（来9:14；彼前3:18）；但因其位格的同一性，所以圣经有时将同一位格中那属于此一性的归之于另一性（徒20:28；约3:13；约壹3:16）。
八．对于那些已由祂代为买回了救赎的人，基督肯定会有效地将此救赎实施并传递给他们（约6:37，39；10:15，16）。基督为他们代求（约壹2:1，2；罗8:34），在道中并藉着道向他们启示救恩的奥秘（约15:13，15；弗1:7－9；约17:6）；用祂的灵有效地说服他们相信并顺服；用祂的道和灵管理他们的心（约14:16；17:17；来12:2；林后4:13，罗8:9,14 ；15:18-19；）；用祂的全能全智胜过他们一切的仇敌，而且所用的方式完全与祂奇妙莫测的旨意相合（诗110:1；林前15:25，26；玛4 :2，3；西2:15）。

CHAPTER 8 OF CHRIST THE MEDIATOR
1. It pleased God, in his eternal purpose, to choose and ordain the Lord Jesus, his only begotten Son, to be the Mediator between God and man, the Prophet, Priest, and King, the Head and Savior of his church, the Heir of all things, and Judge of the world: unto whom he did from all eternity give a people, to be his seed, and to be by him in time redeemed, called, justified, sanctified, and glorified.
2. The Son of God, the second person in the Trinity, being very and eternal God, of one substance and equal with the Father, did, when the fullness of time was come, take upon him man's nature, with all the essential properties, and common infirmities thereof, yet without sin; being conceived by the power of the Holy Ghost, in the womb of the virgin Mary, of her substance. So that two whole, perfect, and distinct natures, the Godhead and the manhood, were inseparably joined together in one person, without conversion, composition, or confusion. Which person is very God, and very man, yet one Christ, the only Mediator between God and man.
3. The Lord Jesus, in his human nature thus united to the divine, was sanctified, and anointed with the Holy Spirit, above measure, having in him all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge; in whom it pleased the Father that all fullness should dwell; to the end that, being holy, harmless, undefiled, and full of grace and truth, he might be thoroughly furnished to execute the office of a mediator, and surety. Which office he took not unto himself, but was thereunto called by his Father, who put all power and judgment into his hand, and gave him commandment to execute the same.
4. This office the Lord Jesus did most willingly undertake; which that he might discharge, he was made under the law, and did perfectly fulfill it; endured most grievous torments immediately in his soul, and most painful sufferings in his body; was crucified, and died, was buried, and remained under the power of death, yet saw no corruption. On the third day he arose from the dead, with the same body in which he suffered, with which also he ascended into heaven, and there sitteth at the right hand of his Father, making intercession, and shall return, to judge men and angels, at the end of the world.
5. The Lord Jesus, by his perfect obedience, and sacrifice of himself, which he, through the eternal Spirit, once offered up unto God, hath fully satisfied the justice of his Father; and purchased, not only reconciliation, but an everlasting inheritance in the kingdom of heaven, for all those whom the Father hath given unto him.
6. Although the work of redemption was not actually wrought by Christ till after his incarnation, yet the virtue, efficacy, and benefits thereof were communicated unto the elect, in all ages successively from the beginning of the world, in and by those promises, types, and sacrifices, wherein he was revealed, and signified to be the seed of the woman which should bruise the serpent's head; and the Lamb slain from the beginning of the world; being yesterday and today the same, and forever.
7. Christ, in the work of mediation, acts according to both natures, by each nature doing that which is proper to itself; yet, by reason of the unity of the person, that which is proper to one nature is sometimes in Scripture attributed to the person denominated by the other nature.
8. To all those for whom Christ hath purchased redemption, he doth certainly and effectually apply and communicate the same; making intercession for them, and revealing unto them, in and by the Word, the mysteries of salvation; effectually persuading them by his Spirit to believe and obey, and governing their hearts by his Word and Spirit; overcoming all their enemies by his almighty power and wisdom, in such manner, and ways, as are most consonant to his wonderful and unsearchable dispensation.

Of Christ the Mediator
I. [28] ACT 2:23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: 24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. 27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. 13:37 But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption. ROM 6:9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

[32] ROM 8:34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. HEB 9:24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us. 25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

JUD 6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. 2PE 2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment.
[34] ROM 5:19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. HEB 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. 10:14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. COL 1:19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; 20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. EPH 1:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will. 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. JOH 17:2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. HEB 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. 15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
[36] GAL 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. GEN 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. REV 13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. HEB 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
